The Ministry of Education (MoE) is the government entity responsible for the management and administration of public education in Jamaica. The Ministry of Education was first established in 1953, as the Ministry of Education and Social Welfare. Currently, the MoE carries out the Government of Jamaica's mandate of ensuring a system which secures quality education and training of all citizens of Jamaica in order to optimise individual and national development. The Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) was incorporated in 1968 and started operation in 1969. The Mico University College (The Mico) is a tertiary education institution in Kingston, Jamaica. The focus of the institution is on teacher training, but programmes in a variety of disciplines are also offered. The Mico was founded in 1835 through the Lady Mico Charity, one of four teacher training institutions established during this period in the British colonies and the only one to survive to the present. Over the years we have undergone expansion, both physically and in our academic programmes.
