Do you want to report "Locals or seasoned visitors of Jamaica, what do you recommend I NOT do in Montego Bay?"
I absolutely recommend going off resort during the day. Think of all the cruise ships that port in Jamaica and the passengers get a couple of hours to run around. The resorts would love for you to stay behind their walls and spend all your dollars with them.
There are plenty of streets in montego bay that you should not go to. Going off the resort is fine but you need someone who knows the streets. Our taxi driver showed us the places that he said we dangerous. As if we walked alone there was a high chance we would be “deboned”
As the previous person said, you are more likely to be robbed than physically assaulted or killed I’m those “no go zones”. Persons wouldn’t want that kinda international attention from overseas authority, that they would receive if they killed a foreigner.
I’ve heard of 3 already since the year started, not from the news, from people that I know.. one of which was a domestic violence issue, so based on the topic, that one wouldn’t be relevant to our conversation but yeah, it happens.. thankfully not too often but my point is just that people die in cold blood, even foreigners, and not just in Jamaica, don’t be so naive about what happens here
Yeah most of these places you wouldn’t go to on purpose, but you could accidentally end up there, that’s why it’s important to have a guide that is Jamaican and that knows the ins and outs of the island like the original commenter said
