Looking for car and parts importers from Japan to expand into Jamaica

Good day everyone! I am a car and parts exporter from Japan and have been in business for 20 years already. I want to enter the Jamaican market and reach out to potential businesses and individuals interested in importing cars, parts, trucks or machinery from Japan. I welcome any suggestions and information to understand the Jamaican market more or find potential buyers. Any help is appreciated. Have a good day!

Advice

If there’s one market that is oversaturated in Jamaica, it’s definitely that one. I would avoid focusing on thr cars/parts. Maybe importing machinery, depending on what kind of machinery I guess. Perhaps for manufacturing plants… Not sure how one would get into the equipment imports market though.

Advice

Thank you for your detailed response, I appreciate the time taken to respond.

I would gladly look into the process for exporting machinery to Jamaica and gather more data about the current market trends.

Advice

Tools is another important market to look into. There are so many workmen out there that don’t have proper tools its crazy. Because of that things take really long. The few that do have the right tools are usually more expensive as well.

Advice

Thank you for your comment. I never thought about the tools market but I will definitely check this out. Would you happen to have any more details on what kind of tools are missing in the market?
I appreciate all the help!

Advice

I’d start of with tools relating to construction: electric sanders, drills, circular saws etc. Some people have them and some people rent them but thays obviously based on the persons pocket.

I’ve had times where I have hired a workman that comes with their team of say 4 but there’s only one drill. I think its worthy to look into, ask anyone out there thats doing any type of home improvement/construction work.

Advice

Thank you for providing further details. I have experience with machinery but its mostly cranes and generators. I will have to consult with someone here who has done tool export before.

I really appreciate your help! Thank you for taking the time!

Advice

Agreed. Market is oversaturated. But… could a business be made from special parts orders? I understand there is a huge markup on these parts when using a local dealer as a proxy.

Additionally, as Jamaicans start realizing the power of online shopping… with proper marketing and sensitization you could be able to form a niche. You may need to partner with local mechanics.

Advice

My boss is a Jamaican who lives in Japan for 25 years..you can speak with him as he speaks fluent japanese..but what will make you and your company different from the others selling cars online? We would like to collaborate with a company like yours but it does take more than talk… Yes people can view many cars online but it is best to have some cars here in Jamaica for people to personally inspect before, we have to own together a subdivisionof business so importing..so let me know..bles

Advice

Definitely also look heavily into Trucks in my opinion. Trucking has always been a thing here in Jamaica. Mostly heavy duty American trucks (International, Peterbuilt, Mack etc) that have passed their emission phases. While they are most certainly powerful, they are also Left Hand Drive.

If you can provide Powerful (really heavy duty) right hand drive trucks/tractor trailers, that are newer and comparable or cheaper than the American Alternative, there might be a market for that as well.

There are a few videos on youtube about the Jamaican Trucking Industry
