Why are Jamaican men so confident when hitting on women?

In comparison to white American men, black American men, and some Hispanics I notice Jamaican men are extremely direct with their intentions, motives, and thoughts when hitting on me/my friends. I don’t think I have EVER had a American man speak to me with the confidence that Jamaicans do. I’m not saying it’s offensive, I’m just wondering why their level of confidence and blunt language is so much more than that of other cultures I’ve seen. Is it something you’re taught while growing up? Something you see your family members do/encourage?

I want to enter the Jamaican market and reach out to potential businesses and individuals interested in importing cars, parts, trucks or machinery from Japan. I welcome any suggestions and information to understand the Jamaican market more or find potential buyers. Any help is appreciated. Have a good day!

Crime, Banking, Poverty. Why is Jamaica so behind?

Firstly this is a genuine question, I am not trying to offend anyone, I would like to understand Jamaica from the perspective of Jamaicans. I am a British American of Jamaican descent and I have only visited the country one time in 2005. Jamaica has the second highest murder rate on the planet, poorly maintained infrastructure, a corrupt government and a dysfunctional banking system. These issues are frequently posted on this subreddit. I believe these are some of the fundamental building blocks of a developed country. Without these building blocks I do not see how a country can progress, but since I visited the country almost 20 years ago its seems as if none of the above issues have been addressed in any meaningful way. Please can anyone offer their explanations for why this is the case? If the banking system is so poor why has nobody started a new bank? If the government is so corrupt why has nobody started a new political party? What’s holding Jamaica back in your opinion?

Why is it that Guyanese tend to be in Jamaican spaces, ally wise, more than Trinidadians? *no disrespect just honestly asking, it’s something I’ve observed*

I even noticed on Instagram, Spice tends to have more of a Guyanese following than Trinidadian. Do Guyanese care for Jamaicans more than Trinidadians?

What does broad or I am broad mean in Jamaican slang?

Canadian-born, Guyanese-background, dancehall reggae fan here. In songs, when the artists says "I'm broad", what do they mean? For example, in Barrington Levy's "Here I Come" he says I'm broad, I'm broad, I'm broader then Broadway Yes I'm broad, I'm broad, I'm broader then Broadway This is just a random question I've had since I was small, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

What is so good about America?

I dated and was married a few years ago to my ex-fiancé at the time and the relationship didn’t work out of course but one of the things she said to me was “What’s so good about this country?” When she mean this country, she’s referring to America. So, everyone or anyone please explain or tell me what is so good about the USA? Is it a better country than Jamaica? What does the US have that Jamaica don’t?

Is rail transport feasible for private sector?

Apparently the govt is looking to divest portions of it’s railway. Mobay to Appleton is more likely based on the plan and seems to be targeting tourists. I understand privatization of that route but is there really any profit in rail transport on other lines the government is looking to privatize? It would seem that’s why investors or private sector are hesitant

Banking in Jamaica is the worst

1. Only CIBC, a Canadian bank alerts you to when you get a deposit into your account through their app 2. Real time transactions are really 30 mins to couple hours 3. Not all machines accept your specific bank’s visa debit card (ridiculous) 4. Machines are almost always out of service. 5. The other day I experienced something truly dumb. NCB’s point of sale will bill your account, but it won’t register on the POS itself. Meaning NCB will take the money from your account, but it won’t make it to the merchant’s account. If you used an NCB card then the transaction will be reversed, but if you have any other card, you’re pretty much fucked. Let’s not even talk about how difficult it is to just open an account. I have many accounts, but I helped someone recently and it’s a nightmare… they’re still waiting

Going back to Jamaica soon and just wanted to know if anyone else who goes backs semi-regularly is constantly hounded by people who want to load you with shit to carry for them. Does anyone else experience this?

Going back to Jamaica soon and just wanted to know if anyone else who goes backs semi-regularly is constantly hounded by people who want to load you with shit to carry for them. It infuriates me to no end I’m literally looking at my bag right now and there’s no space for my clothes because people have forced their junk on me to carry for them. Is this something others go through?

Jamaican Music recommendations

Hello, I am a musician and public school music teacher in Canada. I have some Jamaican students and I would like to share some Jamaican music with them. Everyone in Canada knows who Bob Marley is already—I’d like to celebrate other Jamaican musicians and introduce them to my students. I’m open to music from any genre, though anything related to jazz scores high for sure. My students are from ages 5-14. Thank you!

Renting a car in June - Suggestions for rental companies?

I know that the standard recommendation is don't. I understand driving can be hectic and the roads are not well maintained. That said, assuming I'm getting a car, can you recommend what rental companies to go with or stay away from? Flying into Sangster / Montego Bay. Staying in Negril. I have an international card that is supposed to cover rental insurance, even in Jamaica, though I hear some rental companies may still try to push their own coverage. Thanks for any help and suggestions! One that looked decent was Timeless Mobay Car Rental, but I also see plenty of scary stories in their reviews through Google. Seems like every company is at least a bit risky.

Planning trip to Jamaica- Need Advice All Inclusive

Young couple, 24 yrs want to go to Jamaica. We both have never been. I’m not opposed to an adults only resort like the Zilara if there’s access to I guess a family side? I don’t want to be around little kids all day but I also don’t want to be sitting in silence with old people. Right now the resorts I’ve been looking at are -Hyatt Ziva Rose -Hyatt Zilara -Hilton Rose Hall -Jewel Grande -Moon Palace Any thoughts on these? Thinking of going for 4 nights, 5 days either June or August depending on cheapest flights & matching it with the resort. August makes me a little nervous bc of rain. I’ve been to 1 all inclusive resort in Punta (got food poisoning and it was cloudy the whole time in Sept.)

All inclusive resort recommendations for 7 night stay.

Looking to book an all inclusive stay in Jamaica for the first week of September. Coming with my gf who will be visiting for first time. I stayed at Riu Montego Bay few years ago. We are looking for a resort (preferably adults only, but not limitted to) with good food and variety of options, fun nightlife (clubs, parties), good drink options (large variety of liquor, many bars, pool bar, minibar in room with drinks restocked), excursions such as scuba diving and other thrilling activities, and nice clean beach with no seaweed. So far we are looking Riu Ocho Rios, Riu Tropical Bay, Iberostar Rose Hall, Hyatt Ziva, Jewel Paradise. Please recommend me a nice resort you have been to. Booking this Tuesday.

My family owns about 9 acres of random land in Trelawny and wants to leave some of it to me. What do I do??

Some background: I'm US born, currently living in Asia doing IT work and know nothing about how land ownership or housing reality works in Jamaica at all. I know my mother has kept up with all the probate matters so there's no issue with the government as to who the land belongs to. My question is, are there any reputable companies that can help me remotely manage and maybe build up any land that I may wish to keep and not just sell outright (we have had a few offers already)for a fee. I've been to Jamaica a few times and have a few contacts out there but no one with the kind of knowledge I would need. Any advice at all would be great. Thanks in advance for your help.

Is Smith and Cross rum a good suggestion for my Jamaican friend?

I live in Canada where we don’t have a great selection of alcohol. I have a Jamaican friend who likes Wray & Nephew (as do I, though I can’t drink it straight like him yet haha) Smith and Cross has just hit our shelves and i bought it and tried it in a drink and loved it. I was just wondering if it was a good rum to suggest for him if he likes Wray since it’s the closest thing to that here really.

Was this authentic Jamaican food?

Please help this American out. I don't live anywhere close to Jamaica, and have never been there myself. Last night I had food from the local Jamaican restaurant, and I was wondering if this fare was recognizable to anyone: - A salad with jerk chicken, pickles, tomatoes and mandarin oranges. - A huge bucket of thick and sweet coleslaw. - Plain mac and cheese. I'm genuinely curious if the mac and cheese with sweet coleslaw is a thing. Edit: I'm asking because the combination was weird to me. Thanks for confirming my suspicions lol.

Port Antonio recommendations

Looking for things to do for an open minded, adventurous Canadian couple and our 10 year old son. Planning on a 3 day visit. Thinking Boston Beach one day, rafting on the Rio Grand another and Reach Falls. Are these all legitimate options still? I haven’t been to Port Antonio since maybe 1990!! Thanks for any help. Big up to Jamaica!

What would be a fair amount to give my personal Tour Guide?

I've had a lovely family friend show me around the southern part of the island. He's taken me from the airport in MoBay to my family's spot New Market. Also taken me to family in Portland. He's taken me to several amazing restaurants in the New Market area and we're going to Negril today. I leave tomorrow and wanted to him something to show my appreciation. What would be a fair amount to give him?

He calls me empress, darling and babes, what can i call Him?

I'm british Jamaican and wonder what to call him as a term of endearment. What do you get called by your woman? What do you want/like to be called by your woman? What do you call your man? What does your man want/like to be called? Either jokes or wholesome :) all welcome Edit: thanks for the laughs. - He just responds to questions as yes babes or no babes before continuing. - Maybe it's rare but he's actually lovely and respectful, i'd accept nothing less. - I hate calling people by their name for some reason, seems parental/ patronising. So just wondered. - and We are not very young.
